Closing Out 2025: A Celebration of Living, Loving, and Laughing

As 2025 comes to a close, I’m taking a moment to recognize what a remarkable year this has been—not because everything went smoothly, but because I showed up for myself in every season.
This year, I stayed committed to the four pillars of my health: sleep, exercise, mindset, and food. Those pillars weren’t just goals on a list—they were the foundation that helped me stay grounded, energized, and connected to the life I want to live. I planned, I set goals, I followed through, and I experienced the joy that comes from honouring my own well-being.
I opened my kayaking season in April, dipping my paddle back into familiar waters with excitement for what was ahead. By the end of May, I was off on a carefully crafted solo adventure through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario — a journey powered by courage, independence, and curiosity. I kayaked in each province, collecting moments on the water like postcards for the soul. Alongside paddling, I continued to nurture my love of movement on land too—hiking and walking with old and new friends, sharing the km's and turning simple steps into meaningful moments of connection. And even when eye surgery meant stepping away for most of the summer, I returned in the fall—strong, grateful, and determined to finish the season where I belong: on the water.

May 29, 2025—the adventure begins
My first paddle of the journey was in Fredericton, NB, at a beautiful Kelly's Creek Basin. Julia and I shared a peaceful afternoon on the water, welcomed wildlife and the stunning shoreline she calls home. Not long after, I found myself in Drummondville—celebrating turning 65 with a quiet little paddle that felt like a gift wrapped in sunshine and serenity.

From there connections deepened in Cornwall, ON. I met my first virtual friends—Ken and JJ—people who had only existed in tiny squares on a screen until that moment. I also connected with my cousin Peggy and enjoyed a warm afternoon and evening getting to know her and her partner, wrapped in the familiar comfort of family.

Ontario unfolded like a beautiful map of friendship and community. In Ajax, I walked the very trails I had admired in photos, shared a picnic on the peaceful Nonquon River, and enjoyed being with Kathie in real life. I spent time with Adam and had a joyful reunion with my university friend Bridget—gym, boat, home, and heartfelt memories included.

Then came the joyful whirlwind: staying with Sharon, her husband, Frank, brought many adventures. I enjoyed a wonderful hike with Sharon and my friend Carol M. through the forests of Sheppard's Bush Conservation Area—a peaceful walk filled with good conversation, nature, and the quiet joy of simply moving together.

Then we were off to the airport to pick up and spend time with our friend Sonya from Newfoundland. Laughter, music, and adventure filled our days—including a rock-wall climbing adventure and, of course, a trip to the mall....a must whenever Sonya is involved.

And the fun continued—the Mud Girl experience in Hamilton with friends (mud everywhere but smiles even bigger), and a trip to London for a walk and ride on the merry-go-round with Gail H and company. Sharon took me on a beautiful paddle, which included kayaking in tutus (because why not?). I had the pleasure of meeting Terri R., where she, Sharon and I enjoyed lunch together.

I even had the pleasure of attending several in-person WW meetings—London, Oakville, Port Perry—finally meeting coaches and participants I had only known virtually. What a joy to connect face-to-face and feel part of something bigger.
Music also played a beautiful role in my story this year. I picked up my clarinet and played alongside my friend Sharon — not just for ourselves, but in front of others! It took courage and joy in equal measure... and I embraced both fully.

More than a Trip—a tapestry of people
This journey wasn't just about the places I explored—it was about the people who welcomed me into their lives. Friends who stepped out of the screen and into real-life hugs. Hosts who opened their homes, shared meals, and helped me connect with even more wonderful humans across the country. Their kindness wove laughter, comfort, and belonging into every stop.
And to each of them—thank you. You turned a solo journey into a heartfelt, community-rich adventure.
My final weekend was spent with a special family who have been part of my heart since my teenage years—a reminder of lifelong love and the roots that keep us steady as we grow.

The journey home from my Ontario adventure took me through the Oxford Mills region and back to Fredericton for a night’s rest before returning home to focus on my eye health. Not long after, I met with a surgeon and moved quickly into surgery and recovery. Bed rest became my summer soundtrack, and with my movements and driving restricted, I faced one of my more personal and challenging stretches of the year. I am deeply grateful to my friend Paula, who stepped up without hesitation — getting me to surgery, driving me to follow-up appointments, and ensuring I never had to navigate that part of the journey alone. Healing took time, patience, and trust… but slowly, steadily, I found my way back to health.
A year fully lived
Through travel, challenge, community, creativity, play, and healing—I lived this year fully. I didn’t let setbacks erase my progress. I didn’t let fear quiet the fun. I didn’t let doubt overshadow the truth: I am capable. I am resilient. I am deserving of joy.
I am ending this year strong — not just physically, but in spirit. I continue to choose health, joy, and growth. I continue to live my words: Live, Love, Laugh — loudly, proudly, and on purpose.
So here’s to the year I designed and delivered… and to all the possibilities waiting in the next one.
Cheers to 2025 — and to the version of me who made it unforgettable.
I hope you reflect on 2025 and find yourself celebrating all that the year has offered you, too. Here's to making 2026 another year worth remembering!

Wow! This blog is a true testament to how you show up for yourself. A gentle reminder of how showing up makes life amazing. Getting out of that comfort zone, feeling the fear and doing it anyway. This is what I hope to do in 2026.
I love the adventure you took, the people you met and the courage to take good care while travelling home knowing you were heading for a huge unknown. You stayed positive, had great support and listened to your doctor to a "T". I truly admire your self discipline Noreen. As I head into 2026, I will be focusing on my health, strengthening my physical abilities and going out of my comfort zone.
Thank you…
Beautiful Noreen
